About this site
We launched our redesigned website in October 2009. The website needed to be redesigned for a number of reasons. Now that the new local standards framework is in place, our role at Standards for England has changed. As a strategic regulator, we guide authorities in their execution of the framework, as well as investigating complaints that are not suitable for local authorities to settle themselves.
Our aim with the website was for it to not only reflect this new role but also to be clearer and easier to use. Below is a summary of some of its key features:
- We have reduced the number of main menu items and introduced a drop down menu across the top of the screen, so that it is easier to find what you are looking for. When you are in a particular section of the site, you can also find a more detailed menu about what’s in that section on the right hand side of the screen.
- The new homepage will take you at a glance to the most popular areas of our site. It is more flexible, meaning that we can feature any information that we feel will be of current interest to our audiences. In addition, and in response to feedback from our users, we have added a latest updates box to the homepage. This lists anything that has recently been added to the website. This will soon be linked to an RSS feed so that you can be informed when something has been added to the site, without having to keep checking it.
- The accessibility of the site is improved, with the option to view text in different sizes.
- There is also the option at the end of each page to print it.
- The Resources section contains a number of new features. The resource library contains links to information about our DVDs, presentations, training materials and so on. The new notable practice section contains some helpful examples on what local authorities are doing to help improve standards. The standards forum is an online community for monitoring officers and standards committee members to share ideas and experiences.
The website has been designed in-house and there is further work for us to do. This will include improving sections of the content and providing more information online rather than as a pdfs.
We welcome your feedback on the site – please do get in touch to let us know what you think by contacting website-enquiries@standardsforengland.gov.uk.
