Six councils achieve top standards

21 December 2009

Six local authorities have been shortlisted as being among those with the most innovative approach to ethical standards, Standards for England announced today.

The following local authorities are all in with a chance of winning the Standards and Ethics category at the 2010 LGC Awards:

The shortlisted authorities demonstrated how their local politicians, officers and standards committees are working together to champion ethical standards, and how their work has made a positive difference to local democracy and public confidence.

Dr Robert Chilton, chair of Standards for England, said: “All the authorities shortlisted have shown their commitment to promoting ethical standards and boosting public confidence in local democracy.

“We are pleased to lend our support to this award and it was great to see such an encouraging response to the call for entries. It is clear that many authorities are putting standards at the heart of their culture, and are working hard to promote the value of good conduct and the principles of public life”.

The winner will be selected from the shortlist and announced at the LGC Awards on 24 March 2010.
